We-Haul
Today we helped Will move his possessions from our house to his new apartment in the Raleigh area.
In thinking back, I calculated that this is the tenth year in a row that we have moved at least one, sometimes both, of our children from point A to point B. From home to college dorms in the fall. From college dorms back to home in the summer. From home to college apartments in the fall and then the reverse in the summer. Trips back and forth from Winston-Salem to Chapel Hill, to Wilmington, to Tampa and ultimately to the Raleigh where, happily, both are now living.
Additionally, Tim almost single handedly moved and disposed of every thing from his Dad's house two years ago - an accumulation of possessions over many, many years.
Tim does most of the work - from renting the U-Haul to packing the boxes and furniture and loading the U-Haul. Whichever kid is creating the move is also helping with this. My main contribution is to retrieve usable boxes from my office, an assignment which is quite easy in comparison.
So those of you with little ones who will one day be going off to school and essentially moving out of your home, be prepared. When the time comes, let us know - we have this moving thing down to a science and advice we can give. And it's not so bad really. I am just happy that both of our children have successfully flown the nest and now have places to call their own. An added bonus - more room for our stuff!

Press Release: rare homo sapiens (female category)
This rare, sought after, species is a female cluster of Barr Family. This group has been observed, in the wild, chanting, laughing and dancing simultaneously for several hours at a time.
When captured, this species has been known to become domesticated and thrive in the modern North American culture as long as they are fed, at frequent intervals, sucrose laden carbohydrates. They also must be provided, each day post-sunset, 13% alcohol based red or white liquids served only in Waterford stemmed goblets.

Interestingly, the offspring of noted Barr species adjust very well to the modern world in spite of their atypical maternal upbringing. Said offspring are devoted, appreciative and proud of the paradoxical traits of their matriarchs.
If one encounters this rare and sought after species in the wild, approach should be made with extreme caution. Holding up in plain view and then carefully offering species a plastic type credit card will draw them near and capture can then be made.
Due to the rarity of this species, poachers have been known to attempt capture, but species has avoided this with the use of fuchsia colored tasers.
The Smithsonian is desirous of any related material and/or artifacts relating to this sought after and much desired Barr-type female species. Any questions or comments should be directed to G. Theyar Qute, Curator of rare female species, Smithsonian Institute.

New Game Plan

1. Is it harder to be a pitcher or a running back?
Take a look at the website. Click on the circle in the upper left corner and you'll see some of the questions up for discussion. It looks very much like something that could turn into some real hoopin' and hollerin' - as the Barr family tends to do very nicely.
2. Name the best TV theme song of all time.
3. Would you rather get a $500 check or $1,000 in loose pennies?
While driving home today, I was listening to our local talk radio show. The host was discussing a book and the author was a guest on the show.
The book is called "Barguments". It is a compilation of questions - with no definite answer - but rather matters of opinion. These questions are best asked in a bar - hence the name Barguments - after consuming about 3 beers.

I'm suggesting this as our next family reunion game - really a debate - with beer or wine along with it - either one.

My personal Bargument question:
If the Barrs had moved from Detroit to Hoboken NJ instead of Shreveport, would we all still be as comical as we are now?

Reunion
The Barr family reunion was held in Branson, MO the week of June 8th. Lots of visiting, laughter, picture taking, and playing the dice game, Farkel, went on all week. I know a great time was had by all. Thanks to Tom & Linda for organizing this year's get together and for their fabulous gifts of pictures past and present.

Even though Tammi didn't get to go see Yakov with us, she told me she still had a good time visiting with everyone.

The Engaged Couple
Last week, Jared and Chelsey went to Mexico (outside of Cancun) with her parents for a week's vacation. On the last evening, while taking a walk on the beach, he asked her to marry him. She accepted. He had the approval from her father. So, sometime next summer or fall (the date hasn't been finalized - but it will be after they both graduate, which will be the spring of '09. I think they make a great couple we're all looking forward to a fun time next week at the family reunion.
