Looking good

Tim's dad Art will be 90 years old in August. Way back when, he graduated from Cornell University, served in World War II, worked as an engineer for AT&T for many years and then retired. He recovered from major heart surgery only 3 years ago. He reads the newspaper every day and voted in the last presidential election. This picture was taken two months ago. Amazing.

I'm hooked on these

A few weeks ago I started watching 30 Rock on TV. It's on Thursday nights after another favorite, The Office. After watching 2 episodes, I was hooked. So much so, that I'm getting caught up by watching season one via Netflix. This show has so much smart humor packed into 30 minutes (really about 20 minutes without commercials). All of the characters are unique, funny and of course, a little weird. I love it because it makes me laugh - the hysterical laugh that I need so much after a dreary Thursday at work.

For real world TV and serious, yet fun, financial info, I'm a Suze Orman fan. She's been around for a very long time but I never paid much attention. My coworker got me hooked. With today's financial situation, she has tons of good advice. And what I love about her show is that the advice is for the everyday average person. There is one segment called "Can you afford it?" which can actually be hilarious. Her show is on Saturday night. Also she seems to be making lots of guest appearances on other shows throughout the week. Caution: she can seem a bit goofy on her show. I think she is just trying to make a dry subject interesting - how else could you expect anyone to watch a show about finances and not fall asleep. She's great!

XOXO

Happy Valentine's Day!

My sweet husband gave me a luscious box of Russell Stover candy. What I've always loved about this brand is how the inside of the box lid has a diagram of the candy assortment. I don't have to guess what's inside each piece. My favorites: coconut cluster, chocolate truffle, and Vermont nut cream.

Yet the classic M & M's are still my all time favorite candy - the plain, not peanut. If, for whatever reason, I have a bag, large or small, I consume the entire bag at one sitting. I would be breaking the law if I didn't.

Hooked On....

Peggy has previously mentioned this tv series and talked to me several times about it. Since one of our favorite shows, Boston Legal, just ended we've been looking for a new one to view. I went to our local video store and rented season one of Mad Men ($.99 a disc) to see if we might like it. Well, we are well into the season and are quite hooked. One more disc...we'll be finished with one and I want season 2 to come out...quick! If you've not watched the show, I highly recommend it.

Here's what the web site says about the show:
"The series revolves around the conflicted world of Don Draper (Jon Hamm), the biggest ad man (and ladies man) in the business, and his colleagues at the Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency. As Don makes the plays in the boardroom and the bedroom, he struggles to stay a step ahead of the rapidly changing times and the young executives nipping at his heels. The series also depicts authentically the roles of men and women in this era while exploring the true human nature beneath the guise of 1960s traditional family values."

Here's a picture of Betty (Don's wife). Don't know if you can see the knotty pine cabinets behind her. Our house on Dodd Dr. had the same cabinets along with the cafe curtains that are on the window to Betty's right. I just relate to so much of this show from all the women wearing shirt waist dresses to practically every adult lighting up a cigarette all the time.

Mel and I have had so much fun watching season 1 and are anxiously awaiting for season 2 to come out before season 3 starts back up on tv. Thanks for the recommendation, Peggy. We're hooked!

The groundhog was right

It started late this afternoon. I was surprised. I never check the weather until it's already happened. Happy Tuesday!
