This is where it all began--Cherokee Park Elementary Shreveport, LA 1967. It's hard to believe my first class are 46-47 year olds now! The two little girls in the front row, second and third from the left, were rice girls in our wedding.

I received this tray as a gift from this first class. The inscription reads First Class 1967-68.
I did appreciate it, but remember thinking what am I going to serve on this-- beer! Of course, I appreciate it all the more now as it is a wonderful remembrance of the beginning of my career. Also, I do use it to serve coffee/ dessert at dinner parties. Those room moms knew I'd come of age someday.

I've passed the grading pencil on to Missy and know she will do an excellent job for many years to come.

This is a very touching tribute. Over the course of 29 years you have touched many young lives. What a wonderful legacy. Chris, you should be proud!
Very inspiring, Aunt Chris! I've been considering exploring grade school or high school education after I receive my Masters degree, something in the social sciences. My grad school experience has really prompted me to reconsider what it means to be an effective educator, and it starts much earlier than higher education. I'll have plenty of questions for you and Missy next year!
What a wonderful 29 years!!! And, as Peggy says, 'you touched so many young lives.' It is time for you and Mel to enjoy another time of your lifes. Enjoy and congrats on all your wonderful years as the No. 1 teacher in our books!!!
Great job, Mom. We are very proud of you. I know you will enjoy this new chapter in your life as much as your teaching career. I found it interesting the theme on the board behind you looks like it states: "An Easter Egg hunt is for Everyone." Think that would fly these days?
None of my old bulletin boards would have made it in the late 90s.
My classes always celebrated every holiday. We had Halloween, Christmas, and Easter parties. Now there are winter and spring parties and even a black cat displayed in October is too satanic looking.
Thank you to all for your kind comments. Life is good!
