A Sign Of The Times

Did the Sr. coffee at McD's cause some of these closings?

I heard that Starbucks has wonderful employee benefits. I wonder if this will change too? Good benefits (health insurance) is very expensive for employers; paid vacation, too. Employers are cutting back on these to save money. Tough times.

I think when people are having to pay $4 per gallon for gas, they get that 53 cent cup instead of Starbucks. They (Sb)are advertising heavily here and putting coupons in the paper.

Don't know about benefits. Another place I've heard about wonderful benefits and a great place to work is the Container Store.

I'm a big fan of major medical insurance. It's good for those who don't have to take a lot of expensive daily Rx.

My last "real" job -- if you can call it that -- offered company health insurance that set me back $150 a month as an individual. When I had an emergency appendectomy about 18 months ago, the bill was around $17,500. Long story on that one, stay tuned for the blog. Anyway, I had to show "proof" that this was not a pre-existing condition and ultimately filed four complaints with the KY State Attorney General's office (at least, I think this is where I filed) against the insurance company. After all was said and done, I still ended up having to come 10 grand out of pocket.

Something's gotta give!
