We-Haul

Today we helped Will move his possessions from our house to his new apartment in the Raleigh area.

In thinking back, I calculated that this is the tenth year in a row that we have moved at least one, sometimes both, of our children from point A to point B. From home to college dorms in the fall. From college dorms back to home in the summer. From home to college apartments in the fall and then the reverse in the summer. Trips back and forth from Winston-Salem to Chapel Hill, to Wilmington, to Tampa and ultimately to the Raleigh where, happily, both are now living.

Additionally, Tim almost single handedly moved and disposed of every thing from his Dad's house two years ago - an accumulation of possessions over many, many years.

Tim does most of the work - from renting the U-Haul to packing the boxes and furniture and loading the U-Haul. Whichever kid is creating the move is also helping with this. My main contribution is to retrieve usable boxes from my office, an assignment which is quite easy in comparison.

So those of you with little ones who will one day be going off to school and essentially moving out of your home, be prepared. When the time comes, let us know - we have this moving thing down to a science and advice we can give. And it's not so bad really. I am just happy that both of our children have successfully flown the nest and now have places to call their own. An added bonus - more room for our stuff!
